The day began with an energetic lion dance performed by Guangzhou youth, warmly welcoming their American friends. In the palace, various Cantonese cultural heritage booths, such as redwood carving, Guangzhou olive carving, and paper-cutting, offered hands-on opportunities for exploration. Participants marveled at the intricate artistry, with many expressing excitement over their own creations.
During a joint performance, Guangzhou students showcased martial arts and traditional musical pieces like "Men Should Be Strong," while the One Voice Choir delivered captivating renditions of "Believer" and "See You Again." Both groups exchanged gifts, symbolizing their shared appreciation for each other's cultures.
Under the guidance of instructors, participants painted traditional opera masks, crafted lacquer fans, and wrote Chinese calligraphy. "I'll cherish the fan I made and gift it to my mom back home," one American shared.
Sports also bridge cultural gaps, with ping-pong sessions echoing with laughter. The American choir enjoyed local delicacies, learned to make shrimp dumplings, and explored landmarks like the Cantonese Opera Art Museum and Haixinsha Park.
"This exchange program deepens understanding and builds lasting friendships between our youth," noted an organizer.
