Over 164 mln cross-regional trips made in Guangdong during May Day holiday

More than 164 million cross-regional trips were made across Guangdong during the May Day holiday (May 1-5), marking a 15.45% year-on-year increase, according to the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province.

Highways saw a passenger flow of 151.5408 million trips, up 14.25% from the previous year. Railway passenger traffic reached 10.4119 million trips, a rise of 28.07%.

China Railway Guangzhou Group transported 14.741 million passengers during the holiday, averaging 2.948 million passengers per day, an 18.3% year-on-year increase, setting a new record for the same period in history. On May 1, 3.469 million passengers traveled in a single day, breaking the previous record of 3.165 million trips set on October 1, 2024.

Waterway travel recorded 1.1401 million trips, up 29.08%, while air travel saw 1.3361 million passengers, up 24.51%. Ordinary roads across the province recorded around 150,000 vehicle trips, an 8.23% increase. Urban rail transit systems recorded 96.7126 million passenger trips, a 16.44% rise.

Expressways in Guangdong saw approximately 45.854 million vehicle trips, averaging 9.1708 million per day, a year-on-year growth of 15.67%. The Pearl River Estuary cross-river corridors, including the Huangpu, Nansha, and Humen Bridges, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), and the Huangmaohai Cross-sea Passage, saw a total of 3.5885 million vehicle trips, with a daily average of 717,700 trips.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link recorded around 829,200 vehicle trips, averaging 166,000 per day. On May 1, the link recorded 181,600 vehicle trips, setting a new record high since its opening. The HZMB recorded 26,100 vehicle trips on May 4, approaching its highest number of vehicle trips of 26,600 on February 1, 2025.

Qiongzhou Strait ferry transported about 426,000 passengers, up 23.38%, with around 109,000 vehicles crossing in and out of the island, an increase of 20.43%. Meanwhile, Pearl River tourism passenger volume reached 143,600, surging 45.91% year-on-year.
