Recently, two trainees recommended by Hulhumale Hospital in the Maldives—Aishath Nadhira and Nafeesa Abdul Latheef—successfully completed their training at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) and passed the final assessments.
Since arriving in Guangzhou in February, the two participants have rotated through multiple departments, including the Cataract Department and the Corneal Disease Department, following a "phased, cross-departmental, and practice-oriented" training model.
Under the guidance of senior medical experts, ZOC meticulously tailored a comprehensive program that included theoretical lectures, clinical observations, and hands-on surgical training.
The Maldivian trainees expressed gratitude for ZOC's efficient clinical systems, rigorous surgical standards, and the respectful, patient-centered ethos they experienced. They vowed to leverage their training to advance eye care in the Maldives.
At the graduation ceremony, ZOC Director Lin Haotian presented the trainees with certificates of completion and commemorative mascots marking ZOC's 60th anniversary. In his address, Lin emphasized that the China-Maldives Ophthalmology Cooperation Project exemplifies collaborative medical partnerships between the two nations.
Rooted in the principles of "co-construction, shared benefits, and mutual progress," the initiative has strengthened ties in clinical care, research exchanges, and talent cultivation. He praised the Maldivian trainees for their dedication, multidisciplinary clinical engagement, and their role as cultural ambassadors bridging professional expertise and cross-cultural understanding.
Looking ahead, Lin announced plans to expand international collaboration through innovative platforms like telemedicine and AI-driven diagnostics, aiming to share China's ophthalmic advancements globally. He urged the graduates to apply their skills to benefit patients, serving as "Beacons of Light" for China-Maldives medical cooperation and fostering friendship through healthcare.
