Liu Mingfang, a village official from Zhonghe Village in Xinyi, Maoming, Guangdong Province, was honored as a Touching China 2025 Person of the Year at an award ceremony broadcast on China Central Television (CCTV) on July 14. The annual award recognizes the country's most inspiring role models.

Liu was recognized for successfully evacuating 57 villagers from 25 households just before a landslide triggered by Typhoon Wutip in June 2025. During a patrol amid heavy rain, she noticed muddy water carrying small rocks flowing from a mountain gully, realized it as a warning sign of a possible landslide, and immediately organized an evacuation. Liu's timely actions ensured no casualties in her village.

Accepting the award, Liu said: "When doing this work, we don't think that much about ourselves. We put life and death aside."
Over the past decade, several people from Guangdong have also received the Touching China award, including sprinter Su Bingtian, nuclear scientist Peng Shilu and crop geneticist Lu Yonggen.
