Guangzhou initiates cold weather IV-level emergency response

A strong cold front has reached Guangzhou. According to @Guangzhou Weather and the city's meteorological observatory, Guangzhou has met the criteria for initiating a Level IV emergency response for meteorological disasters (cold weather). The Guangzhou Meteorological Disaster Emergency Command has activated the Level IV emergency response for meteorological disasters (cold weather) in Guangzhou.

On the morning of January 26, Guangzhou will experience a sharp transition from the warm and sunny weather to a wet and cold "winter," with temperatures continuing to drop throughout the day. Residents are advised to wear thick clothing when going out in the morning, including bringing out their winter coats and heavy jackets that have been stored away.

Due to the impact of the strong cold front, temperatures in the Yuexiu and Tianhe districts of Guangzhou will drop significantly over the next 24 hours, with daily average temperatures falling below 12°C.

As of 9 PM on January 25, cold weather warnings have been issued in all 11 districts of Guangzhou. Among them, Conghua District has issued an orange warning, while the remaining districts have issued yellow warnings.

The leading edge of the strong cold front is expected to continue moving southward. Under its influence, Guangzhou will experience cloudy skies turning to light rain on January 26, with temperatures gradually dropping. The temperature range will be 17-10°C (with a daytime high of 12°C), and land gusts will increase to 5-7 meters per second, while gusts in harbor areas and highlands will intensify to 7-9 meters per second.

Looking ahead to January 27 to 29, the weather will turn sunny, with temperatures ranging from 6-17°C. Daytime temperatures will gradually rise, but it will remain cold in the mornings and evenings.

The specific forecasts for the next three days are as follows:

The Guangzhou meteorological and emergency departments remind the public:

Starting from January 26, due to the significant temperature drop caused by the strong cold front, there is an increased risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, carbon monoxide poisoning, and exposure to the cold for homeless individuals. It is recommended to prepare for disease prevention, carbon monoxide poisoning prevention, and cold weather assistance in advance. Starting from January 26, winds will intensify over land and in harbor areas in Guangzhou.

Activities such as Spring Festival flower markets and lantern festivals should be mindful of the impact of strong winds. Harbor operations and water activities such as ships passing through, and Pearl River night cruises should take timely shelter from the wind.

Precautions should be taken in advance to protect vegetables, flowers, potatoes, tropical fruit trees, livestock, and aquaculture from the cold. With less precipitation in the coming days, the forest fire danger level will remain high. Attention should be paid to forest fire prevention and the safe use of fire and electricity in daily life and production.
