A reception was held on September 15 to celebrate the 216th anniversary of Mexico's Independence by the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou.
In his welcome remarks, Daniel Dominguez Cantú, Acting Consul General of Mexico in Guangzhou, highlighted a stronger relationship between Mexico and China across the economic, commercial, cultural and educational fields.
China is Mexico's second-largest trading partner, while Mexico is China's second-largest trading partner in Latin America. In 2025, bilateral trade reached over US$109 billion.
Notably, Dominguez underscored the important role of Guangdong in this relationship. In 2025, trade between Mexico and Guangdong reached over 167 billion yuan, reflecting the enormous potential for cooperation in industries and supply chains.
In 2026, the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou has organized investment promotion seminars in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai in the hope that more Chinese firms will choose Mexico as a destination for investment, manufacturing and long-term growth.
Additionally, China and Mexico are connected by two direct air routes from Beijing and Shenzhen. These connections facilitate business and leisure travel, while also bringing the two peoples closer together.
Since meetings of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will be held in Shenzhen this November, Dominguez noted that Mexico, as the host of APEC in 2028, has actively participated in this year's APEC meetings and preparatory activities.
"We look forward to continuing to work with China and with other economies in the region to promote open trade, innovation and shared prosperity," he added.

Yuan Baocheng, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, extended festive greetings and best wishes to Daniel Dominguez and to all Mexican friends working, studying and living in Guangdong.
"Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, China and Mexico have kept bilateral relations on the right track, becoming good partners in mutually beneficial cooperation and good brothers with mutual understanding and affinity," he noted.
Driven by bilateral relations, strong cooperation between Guangdong and Mexico has continued to deepen and produce solid results.
Yuan listed electro-mechanical products, clothing and furniture made in Guangdong, which are well received by Mexican consumers, as well as Mexican quality industrial products entering the Guangdong market.
Additionally, leading Guangdong enterprises such as GAC and Midea regard Mexico as a critical destination for expanding overseas markets. The industrial and supply chains of the two sides are deeply integrated and gradually moving beyond traditional industries to expand into fields such as green energy, electric vehicles, advanced manufacturing and AI.
Since the beginning of 2026, Nansha, Qianhai and other places in Guangdong have held events to promote industrial investment in Mexico, which have received an enthusiastic response from enterprises of both sides.
As for people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two sides, Yuan detailed universities in both places that have used relevant China-Latin America cooperation platforms to conduct scientific research exchanges and student exchange programs, which have laid a solid foundation of public support for the steady, sustained development of practical cooperation.
Above all, with the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting approaching in Guangdong, Yuan said that the province is ready to join hands with friends from all sectors in Mexico to open up broader avenues for cooperation in the digital economy, green energy, new energy vehicles and other fields, and to make greater contributions to mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Mexico.
