Shanwei has emerged as one of the world's leading hubs for colored gemstone processing and trade. About half of the world's rough colored gemstones are processed in Shanwei, with products exported to over 180 countries and regions.
In 2025, Shanwei's jewelry industry generated a total output value of more than 35 billion yuan. The city processes approximately 50,000 tons of colored gemstones annually. It also accounts for over 70% of global crystal bracelet production and half of China's alloy jewelry component processing volume.
Today, Shanwei's jewelry sector is shifting toward smart manufacturing and design-driven development. Technologies such as 3D printing, digital factories, and traceability systems have significantly improved production efficiency and transparency. At the same time, original designs that blend traditional Chinese culture with modern aesthetics have further enhanced product added value.
E-commerce and cross-border trade have also expanded its market reach. The city is home to around 2,500 jewelry e-commerce businesses. In 2025, online retail sales of gold, silver, and jewelry in Shanwei reached 9.6 billion yuan, a 151.5% year-on-year increase.
