German-speaking delegation explores Zhuhai, gets closer look at China

To further enhance exchanges and cooperation between Zhuhai and German-speaking countries in Western Europe, a 10-member delegation of left-wing political parties from German-speaking countries of Western Europe visited Zhuhai from April 22 to 24.

The group was led by Markus Pohle, a member of the Executive Committee of the Left Party of Germany, and Massimiliano Ay, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Switzerland.

During their stay in Zhuhai, the delegation visited key locations including the Eastern Artificial Island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and Gree Electric Appliances Inc.

On the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, delegation members expressed amazement at China's construction capabilities. "This bridge shows that China's architecture and development are possible and capable. I am very impressed," said Anja Eichhorn, Vice Chair of the Left Party in Saxony, Germany. "Also, I want to know more about China's development and what they are investing in."

Anna Cordi, Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the German Communist Party, noted that people in European countries know far too little about this fascinating country. In addition to technology, she would also like to explore China's infrastructure and education—to see how normal people live and learn here.

"It's interesting to see how many free services are here for the people. It also makes it easier to get in contact with the people," said Lisa Pfitzmann, a member of the Executive Committee of the Left Party of Germany, at the People's Congress Deputies Liaison Station in Xiangwan Subdistrict.

Over the three-day visit, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of Zhuhai's achievements and experiences in advancing Chinese modernization, developing new quality productive forces, promoting rural revitalization, and modernizing primary-level governance.

"Everything I saw in Zhuhai is very impressive. Especially the Bridge, the science of engineering, the arts...It is a great area. That's why I am very happy to be here and thank you for this time," said Michael Nötzel, Deputy Chair of the Left Party parliamentary group in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Over the years, Zhuhai has actively engaged in international exchanges and continues to expand its network of international partners, currently maintaining 44 sister or friendly exchange cities worldwide.
