Guangdong cultural delegation attended the Chinese Embassy in Papua New Guinea Open House Day on July 30, presenting a diverse array of Lingnan culture to the PNG audience.

The event is held in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby. It coincided with both the 2026 APEC "China Year" and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and PNG, underscoring a shared commitment to deepening people-to-people connections.

The Guangdong delegation presented a rich mix of Lingnan-style intangible cultural heritage, performances and cutting-edge technology products to about 200 guests attended, including PNG parliamentarians, government officials, academics, journalists and students.

They experienced Guangzhou painted porcelain, Cantonese embroidery and paper-cutting, and watched performances of Cantonese opera, puppetry, Wing Chun and an intangible-heritage infused magic show.

The Open House Day also featured an exhibition of dozens of Lingnan folk craft pieces brought by the Guangdong delegation. A rich Guangdong products showcase brought by Guangdong's flagship international communication media the South has also drew enthusiastic crowds.
Products such as the stringless guitar and the exoskeleton robot amazed attendees with their advanced technology from Guangdong, prompting many to line up for hands-on trials.
H. E. Yang Xiaoguang, Chinese Ambassador to PNG extended a special thank-you to the visiting Guangdong delegation, saying the group had travelled thousands of miles across the ocean to PNG to showcase fine Chinese cultural works and seek further cooperation.
"Their meaningful trip fully embodies the sincere and profound friendship the Chinese people hold for our Papua New Guinean friends," Ambassador Yang stressed in direct remarks.
He spoke highly of Guangdong delegation's showcase. The diverse range of products and performances showcased by the delegation had greatly enriched the dimension of the Chinese embassy's open house day, adding distinctive Guangdong charisma to the event, he noted.
