WorldSkills champions inspire youth in Greater Bay Area

On May 13, five WorldSkills champions visited Hengqin and participated in an exchange meeting at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao, in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

The champions from the 47th WorldSkills Competition, including Yao Nijun (Goods Display Technology), Zhou Qinfu (Fashion Technology), Ma Zhenpeng (Mobile Application Development), Fang Canhao, and Jiang Jiajun (Autonomous Mobile Robotics), along with Macao contestants, engaged in face-to-face communication with nearly 200 young students from Zhuhai, Macao, and Hengqin, sharing their growth experiences and competition insights.

At the 47th WorldSkills Competition held from September 10 to 15, 2024, Guangdong sent 27 contestants to 23 events, winning 13 golds, 5 silvers, 1 bronze, and 3 excellence awards, ranking first nationally in both gold and medal counts, with golds exceeding a third of the national total. The Macao delegation secured 11 excellence awards, ranking 22nd among participating countries and regions.

The five champions shared their competition preparation, learning methods, and career plans, encouraging youth to dream big, be brave, and be persistent in pursuing skill-based national service. Their stories vividly demonstrated how skills illuminate the future, resonating strongly with the audience.

In 2024, the WorldSkills Macao Comprehensive Training Base in the Cooperation Zone hosted the first joint training, aiming to inspire more youth in Hengqin and Macao to pursue skill-based careers and inject new talent into the region's modern industrial system.

Macao contestants Chen Zhili and Du Jiawei, who won excellence awards at the 47th WorldSkills Competition, noted that the Training Base has enhanced exchanges between Macao and mainland contestants, expressing hope for more such opportunities to boost Macao's competitiveness.
