A tasting and exchange event featuring Xuwen pineapple mooncakes was held at Pakuranga Plaza in Auckland, New Zealand, from September 20 to September 21. Local government and business representatives, along with community members, sampled the mooncakes from Xuwen, Zhanjiang, and shared feedback on taste, sweetness, packaging and marketing.

Xuwen, a major pineapple-producing region in China, has about 350,000 mu (57,680 acres) of pineapple plantations, with an annual output of around 700,000 tonnes—one-third of China's total. Its annual output value rose from 3.1 billion yuan in 2018 to 5.4 billion yuan in 2025.
Local food enterprises combine Xuwen pineapples with traditional mooncake-making to create pineapple mooncakes, blending traditional flavours with a refreshing tropical twist.
To explore the New Zealand market and local taste preferences, Xuwen enterprises partnered with the New Zealand Cantonese Chamber of Commerce to host the tasting event. Three Zhanjiang food brands—Yutangfu Pineapple Commune, Zanglongji and Xiaoxuwen—participated, with support from the Xuwen County Government and relevant authorities.

Wang Jiazheng, president of the New Zealand Cantonese Chamber of Commerce, said the event aims to gather market feedback to improve products and packaging. It will promote Xuwen pineapple mooncakes and other pineapple-based products in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific island nations. The goal is to help the "Xuwen Pineapple" brand reach global markets.
