The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Macao Special Administrative Region sent a delegation to Mozambique from July 22 to 26 for a series of trade and investment activities, stepping up joint efforts to strengthen economic ties with Portuguese-speaking countries.
The delegation, jointly led by Hengqin's Economic Development Bureau and the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao SAR, attended the "Entrepreneurs Meeting for Commercial and Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries – Maputo – 2026."
This was the second joint economic mission to Africa by Hengqin and Macao, following their first in 2024.
During the conference, Hengqin promoted its preferential tax policies, cross-border business facilitation measures and innovation programs. Officials also introduced the Service Centre for Economy and Trade between China and Portuguese/Spanish-speaking Countries, a platform designed to provide investment, legal, trade and business support for companies operating between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking markets.
The service centre and Mozambique's Chamber of Commerce signed a strategic cooperation agreement during the visit. The partnership will focus on trade promotion, legal and commercial services, talent recruitment and two-way investment cooperation, establishing a long-term framework for business collaboration.
In addition to the conference, the delegation visited government agencies, financial institutions and business hubs across Mozambique to strengthen cooperation in manufacturing, logistics and cross-border finance.
Discussions at the Beluluane Industrial Park focused on industrial investment and potential manufacturing projects, while talks at the Port of Maputo covered warehousing, logistics and supply chain services to support companies expanding into Africa.
The delegation also visited Banco Único's Maputo branch to discuss cross-border trade settlement and financial services for businesses investing in Mozambique.
The visit comes as China and Mozambique mark the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
