China creates media-friendly National Games with seamless, high-tech services

With just four days until the opening ceremony of China's 15th National Games, organizers held a press conference in Guangzhou on November 5 to outline media services and broadcast plans. The Games have attracted unprecedented attention, with more than 3,200 journalists registered from China and abroad.

Multiple press centers across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao

For the first time, the National Games are co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, marking a milestone in regional collaboration. To support coverage, press centers have been established in all three regions.

In Guangzhou, the Main Press Center (MPC) is located in the Guangdong Radio Center, while the International Broadcast Center (IBC) operates from the Guangdong Television Center. Hong Kong's Main Press Center is situated at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park Sports Centre, and Macao's is at the East Asian Games Dome. Each center provides workspaces, technical support, logistics, and information services for journalists.

A cultural journey at Guangzhou's MPC

According to Cui Chaoyang, head of the Media and Publicity Department of the Guangdong organizing committee, the Guangzhou Main Media Center will open on November 7. Beyond professional facilities, it offers an immersive introduction to Lingnan culture, the rich heritage of southern China.

From November 9, the media restaurant will host rotating food days, with each of Guangdong's 21 cities showcasing its local cuisine. Journalists can participate in the "Taste of Guangdong Passport" event, collecting stamps for 168 Cantonese dishes. Meanwhile, an exhibition area titled "Farm Cube" features fresh produce and local specialties.

Inside the center, journalists can try traditional crafts such as paper-cutting and porcelain painting, while exhibitions showcase anime murals, food-themed art, and photography celebrating Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao culture.

Seamless support for work and travel

To facilitate reporting across the three regions, 42 designated hotels are available at discounted rates, and accredited journalists can use shuttle buses and public transport free of charge. Transfers connect airports, train stations, and venues, ensuring smooth travel for the press.

Guangdong has also launched the "Travel with the National Games" program, featuring 23 themed routes linking sports venues with major cultural and scenic attractions. Journalists can enjoy ticket discounts and curated tours during their stay.

Smart information access in three languages

The organizing committee also offers an online news center. Accessible via website or WeChat mini program, it provides real-time updates, competition results, photos, and event background in Chinese, English, and Portuguese. Journalists can easily switch between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao pages for tailored updates.

High-tech broadcasting for a new viewing experience

Live coverage of 69 events at the 15th National Games will be delivered in high definition across Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Audiences can enjoy an immersive viewing experience through advanced technologies, including virtual digital presenters, AR-enhanced visuals, immersive 3D sound, and free-viewpoint replay. Many of the systems and devices are developed locally, highlighting Guangdong's innovation in sports and media technology.
