Jewellery companies from Guangdong's Shanwei are seeking a bigger global presence after appearing at one of Asia's largest industry events.

Fourteen firms from the city of Shanwei in Guangdong province took part in the 42nd Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, which opened on March 4 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, seeking a larger global presence. The event has attracted exhibitors from more than 40 countries and regions.
Shanwei has emerged as one of the major centers for colored gemstones and jewellery processing in China. Local officials say the city now has around 21,000 jewellery-related businesses, with an industry worth about 35 billion yuan.

In recent years, manufacturers in the area have tried to move beyond contract manufacturing by developing their own brands and design capabilities.
At the Hong Kong fair, companies presented gemstone rings, necklaces, and pearl products while exploring partnerships with international buyers and designers.

Delegates from Shanwei also met with representatives from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to discuss future cooperation, including support for local firms attending international exhibitions.

Industry leaders say events like the Hong Kong show remain an important gateway for jewellery makers looking to reach global markets and understand changing consumer trends.
