On January 5, over 300 Black-faced Spoonbills and 56 Oriental White Storks were observed roosting in groups at the Dahu Section of the Guangdong Haifeng Provincial Bird Nature Reserve in Shanwei City.

The Black-faced Spoonbill, a globally endangered species and national first-class protected bird, also known as the "black-faced angel," was noted among the roosting groups. Meanwhile, populations of the Oriental White Stork have steadily increased in recent years. Notably, three Black-faced Spoonbills were fitted with leg bands, providing valuable data to support research on migratory routes and population dynamics.

Haifeng Wetland is a key stopover along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. In recent years, the reserve has enhanced its ecological capacity through mangrove restoration and the creation of supplementary feeding areas, making it a favored wintering ground for rare migratory birds.
