Guangdong has announced new tiered minimum wage standards that will take effect on September 1, 2026.
According to a notice issued by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, cities across the province will be grouped into three minimum wage tiers.
In the first tier, Guangzhou's monthly minimum wage will rise to 2,680 yuan (USD 397.44), while Shenzhen's will be slightly higher at 2,700 yuan (USD 400.40). Both cities will set the hourly minimum wage for part-time workers at 25.4 yuan (USD 3.77).
The second tier covers Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan and Zhongshan, where the monthly minimum wage will be 2,300 yuan (USD 341.08). The hourly minimum wage for part-time workers will be 21.9 yuan (USD 3.25).
The third tier covers 15 cities: Shantou, Shaoguan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, Shanwei, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Maoming, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Chaozhou, Jieyang and Yunfu. The monthly minimum wage in these cities will rise to 2,040 yuan (USD 302.53), while the hourly minimum for part-time workers will be 20.2 yuan (USD 3.00).
In addition, data released by the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Statistics in June 2026 showed that average annual wages in the province's urban non-private and private sectors stood at 143,284 yuan (USD 21,248.66) and 83,930 yuan (USD 12,446.61) in 2025, up 5.8 percent and 3.6 percent year on year, respectively.
