Guangzhou Mayor Sun Zhiyang met with a delegation led by Nguyen Van Duoc, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in Vietnam, at Guangzhou Municipal People's Government on the afternoon of September 29.
Sun said that since establishing sister-city ties 30 years ago, Guangzhou and Ho Chi Minh City have maintained frequent exchanges and close cooperation, with particularly fruitful results in areas such as rail transit, tourism and culture in recent years. Sun expressed the hope that the two cities would deepen industrial cooperation in urban rail transit, new energy, artificial intelligence, digital technologies and other fields. He also hoped they would use the China-Vietnam Tourism Cooperation Year as an opportunity to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and support more young people from Vietnam in participating in the "Global Youth Explore Guangzhou" initiative. He warmly invited a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City to attend the Global Mayors' Forum and events associated with the 7th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation in Guangzhou this December, and to share the city's experience in innovative urban governance.
Nguyen Van Duoc, visiting Guangzhou again after 13 years, said he was impressed by the city's achievements in green transformation and modernization. Ho Chi Minh City is vigorously advancing infrastructure development and economic growth, he said. The city welcomes financial institutions and companies from Guangzhou to participate in developing its International Financial Center and an international port hub. He also expressed the hope of drawing on Guangzhou's experience in building and operating rail transit systems and deepening economic and trade cooperation, as well as collaboration in logistics, people-to-people exchanges and other areas.
