Rural cafe in Huizhou's tea garden becomes a check-in site

In a tranquil village of Baitang Town, Boluo County, Huizhou City, a rural cafe amid verdant mountains and tea gardens has transformed into a bustling destination recently.

Since the May Day holiday, the rural cafe called "Yishanhai" has drawn nearly 20,000 visitors daily on average, seeking respite from the urban hustle and bustle. Opened in March this year, the cafe swiftly rose to fame as a viral check-in destination due to its distinctive terraced tea plantation scenery.

"Many tourists come here to take photos, which aligns with one of the primary motivations for travel today", explained Qiao Peng, the operator of several boutique homestays and rural cafes. "This reflects the growing popularity of micro-getaways—a half-day experience that satisfies the desire for a quick, effortless escape," Qiao Peng said.

The rural cafe's biggest appeal lies in its sweeping tea plantation vistas and the region's rich tea heritage. Baitang Town, with a thousand-year history of tea cultivation, sees over 70% of its population engaged in tea-related industries, including more than 6,000 tea-growing households supporting over 20,000 residents.

By 2024, the town's tea planting area reached about 7,116 acres, yielding 2,188 tons of tea with an annual output value exceeding 1 billion yuan. This thriving industry has boosted the average annual income of tea-farming households to 150,000 yuan per family.
