Guangzhou's top cycling routes: unforgettable pedal journey

Recently, urban cycling has become all the rage. Here are some carefully planned cycling routes in Guangzhou that allow you to appreciate classic city landmarks while also getting close to nature and enjoying a refreshing experience for both the body and mind.

Line 1: From historic sites to contemporary vibrant CBD

Xinhepu Road (新河浦路) --- Donghu Road (东湖路) --- Ersha Island (二沙岛) --- Guangzhou Bridge (广州大桥) --- Linjiang Avenue (临江大道)

This route takes you through the bustling CBD of Guangzhou, offering a dynamic mix of modern and historical attractions. As you cycle through the vibrant Dongshankou area, you'll encounter trendy boutiques, art exhibitions, and the city's largest remaining complex of low-rise courtyard-style buildings that blend Chinese and Western architectural elements. If you want to capture the perfect shot of Canton Tower while avoiding the crowds, consider these two routes:

Route One: Ersha Island Sports Park (二沙岛体育公园) → Guangzhou Bridge (广州大桥) → Hongcheng Park (宏城公园) → Haixin Bridge (海心桥) → Haixinsha (海心沙) → Huacheng Square (花城广场) → Opera House Station (大剧院站) / Huacheng Avenue Station (花城大道站)

Route Two: Ersha Island Sports Park (二沙岛体育公园) → Guangzhou Bridge (广州大桥) → Hongcheng Park (宏城公园) → Haixin Bridge (海心桥) → Haixinsha (海心沙) → Linjiang Linear Park (临江带状公园) → Liede Bridge (猎德大桥) → Liede Station (猎德站)

Historic Site of Ancient Whampoa Anchorage (黄埔古港) --- Wanshengwei (万胜围) --- Yuejiang Road (阅江路碧道) --- Liede Bridge (猎德大桥) --- Linjiang Linear Park (临江带状公园)

This cycling route along the Pearl River connects key landmarks such as Pazhou West District, Pazhou Complex, Pazhou East District, and Canton Tower. Along the way, you'll not only see many of Guangzhou's iconic buildings but also enjoy beautiful riverside scenery. The bike lane is made with slip-resistant elastic material, which will definitely enhance your cycling experience.

Line 3: Discover a garden-wrapped cycling journey

This serene cycling route takes you far from the hustle and bustle of the city and allows you to fully enjoy the scenic island greenway. There is Shuimo Garden on the island, a traditional Chinese garden with an ancient, serene charm, providing you a quiet and picturesque escape. You can also visit nearby Xiaozhou Village to experience the village's artistic atmosphere and rustic simplicity.

Line 4: Bicycle to the beach

Lingshan Island's scenic waterfront greenway (灵山岛尖滨水绿道) --- Puzhou Garden (蒲州花园) --- Nansha Tianhou Palace (南沙天后宫)

This coastal cycling route starts from the beautiful Lingshan Island Waterfront Greenway, offering stunning sea views and a refreshing breeze. Along the way, you might spot locals picnicking. If you want to visit Nansha Tianhou Palace and Puzhou Garden, be sure to take Tianhou Road. The straight rows of bald cypress trees lining the road are particularly beautiful in autumn and winter.

Line 5: Navigate through mountains and waters

Chuxi Leisure Park (初溪休闲公园) --- Hezhizhou Wetland Park (鹤之洲湿地公园) --- Zengjiang Gallery (增江画廊) --- Linjiang Park (临江公园) --- He Xiangu Tourist Area (何仙姑景区)

This cycling route spans the entire Zengjiang Gallery and is approximately 40 kilometers and consists of both the east and west banks. Along the Zengjiang River, you'll encounter beautiful natural ecological landscapes, creating a continuous and stunning panorama of nature's artwork. As you ride a bicycle here, you can be completely immersed in the charm of this grand natural painting, leaving you feeling refreshed and invigorated.

Guangzhou also offers other fantastic cycling routes such as the forested trails of Dafu Mountain (大夫山), which provides a cool and comfortable ride, and the Greenway in Wanqingsha (万顷沙) Town. Traveling south, you can indulge in fresh and delicious seafood.
