Third GBA int'l journalism competition opens for entries

The third Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Journalism & Communication Competition for College Students is now open for submissions.

University students around the world, including undergraduates and postgraduates, are invited to submit original journalism and storytelling projects for the chance to win prizes and reach an international audience. The submission window runs from August 5 to November 30, 2026.

Hosted by Sun Yat-sen University's School of Journalism and Communication and by South, this year's competition puts the spotlight on the Asia-Pacific region.

How do you see the future of APEC?

As China hosts APEC 2026 and Shenzhen prepares to welcome the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November, young people have a unique opportunity to tell the stories behind one of the world's fastest-changing regions.

Entries may address any APEC-related theme, including "My Vision of an Asia-Pacific Community with a Shared Future," "APEC and the Future of Greater Bay Area Youth" and others. Whether you focus on innovation, cultural exchange, sustainability or the experiences of young people, we are looking for stories that are original, engaging and internationally relevant.

Entries are accepted in five categories:

- Written reports

- Data journalism

- Audio & video

- Documentary photography

- Integrated media works (including H5 interactive pages, animations, news games and web comics)

An expert jury will award first, second and third prizes in each category. The award ceremony is scheduled for March 2027.

Before you submit

If your work includes text or narration, it must be produced primarily in a non-Chinese language, such as English, French, German or Japanese, and accompanied by a Chinese translation. Entries produced primarily in Chinese are not eligible.

Students may submit entries as individuals or as part of a university, department or campus media team.
