Latter section of Guangzhou Metro Line 22 to open this year

According to Guangzhou Metro, the latter section of Line 22 (Chentougang–Fangcun) is set to officially open to the public before the end of 2025 and will be connected with the line's initial section (Panyu Square–Chentougang).

Line 22 has a total length of 29.7 kilometers and comprises eight stations, including four interchange stations. Designed as an express line to Guangzhou South Railway Station, the line operates at a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The initial section of Line 22 (Panyu Square–Chentougang) has been in service since March 31, 2022, while the latter section (Chentougang–Fangcun) is scheduled to open within the year.

Once fully operational, Line 22 will reduce the travel time between Fangcun Station and Panyu Square Station to approximately 27 minutes, providing a fast rail link between Panyu District and Liwan District.

The latter section of Line 22 runs from south to north and includes four stations: Nanpu West, Nanjiao, Xilang, and Fangcun. It will operate through service with the initial section under a single route pattern from Panyu Square to Fangcun, with trains stopping at all stations. During weekday peak hours, 13 trains will be in operation, with headways of approximately four minutes and 50 seconds.

In terms of architectural design, stations along the latter section continue the "Pulse Interchange" theme, featuring diamond-shaped design elements and the line's signature "vibrant orange" to create a futuristic, high-tech aesthetic.

Notably, Fangcun Station is designed as Guangzhou's first underground aerial artistic pedestrian bridge integrated with a cross-shaped interchange concourse to form an international-standard transport hub. Adopting the theme of "Flowing Pearl River, Blooming Fangcun," its design draws inspiration from the Pearl River and blooming kapok flowers.
