Guangzhou launches 2026 Science and Technology Week

The opening ceremony for the 2026 Guangzhou Science and Technology Week and the 10th Science Carnival was held at Guangzhou Zoo on May 23, kicking off a month-long series of science outreach activities across the city.

Running from early May to early June, the event features exhibitions, interactive experiences, science lectures, and themed night tours designed to bring science closer to the public.

A guidebook integrating the city's science education venues and educational resources was also released at the opening ceremony, offering residents a new way to explore Guangzhou through science-themed activities.

As one of the event highlights, the Science Carnival features interactive experiences presented by more than 20 universities, research institutes, and technology companies, showcasing robotics, artificial intelligence, and other cutting-edge technologies.

The zoo's night tour also attracted many families with children. Visitors can observe rare insects, including giant stick insects, Hercules beetles, and orchid mantises, as well as animals such as otters, capybaras, sloths, red slender lorises, Burmese pythons, and Chinese crocodile lizards.

A symposium on science outreach was also held during the event, bringing together representatives from government departments, universities, research institutes, technology companies, and science education organizations to discuss topics including public access to scientific resources and the development of the science popularization sector.
