Shantou publishes official standard for Chaoyang Yingge

Chaoyang Yingge dance was inscribed on the first batch of the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006. Recently, the local standard Intangible Cultural Heritage: Chaoyang Yingge was officially approved, published, and implemented by the Shantou Market Supervision and Administration Bureau of Guangdong Province. Henceforth, there is standardized instruction on how to dance Chaoyang Yingge.

This standard covers core elements of Chaoyang Yingge performance, including basic requirements, fundamental techniques, and basic formations, serving as a guide for the inheritance and practice of traditional Chaoyang Yingge.

The standard also provides guidelines on team composition, facial makeup, costumes, props, musical instruments, and musical accompaniment for Yingge dance. Meanwhile, it demonstrates the mallet techniques and footwork of Yingge and lists traditional and common basic formations in performances, ensuring the authenticity and vitality of this traditional art amid modernization.

According to the Shantou Municipal Institute of Quality and Technical Supervision Standard and Code of Guangdong Province, the leading unit in formulating the standard, this is the first local standard specifically formulated for intangible cultural heritage in the province. It not only provides strong support for the inheritance of Chaoyang Yingge but also offers new ideas and methods for the protection of intangible cultural heritage across the province, promoting the scientific and standardized development of intangible cultural heritage protection in Guangdong.
