The Green Energy Industry Science and Technology Innovation Sub‑forum of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum 2026 and the Greater Bay Area Green Energy Conference were held on Hailing Island, Yangjiang, from October 16 to 17. Benjamin List, the 2021 Nobel laureate in chemistry and the director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Germany, attended the event.
This was his first visit to Yangjiang to attend the inaugural Greater Bay Area Green Energy Conference. As a Nobel laureate in chemistry, List has long focused on frontier research in key areas of green chemistry, including asymmetric organocatalysis, small organic molecule catalysis and carbon dioxide utilization.
On the afternoon of October 16, he said in an interview that Yangjiang's nature is beautiful, with an awesome ocean and great mountains, and that what impressed him most was the food, which was really excellent. "I'm sure there are awesome activities all over the Greater Bay Area, and I know Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Yangjiang are getting closer together." He added, "I have no doubt that this will lead to great success."
