As a high-quality, efficient, and sustainable source of aquatic protein, tilapia is processed into products like frozen fillets and fish steaks, which are popular in European and American countries and regions. According to statistics, in the first three quarters of 2025, Maoming's aquatic product exports reached 1.83 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%. Among this, tilapia exports alone amounted to 1.53 billion yuan, growing by 3.1%.
In recent years, Maoming has continued to promote green and healthy aquatic breeding technologies, advancing the standardized and eco-friendly cultivation of tilapia. It has established 44 provincial-level demonstration zones for healthy and ecological aquatic breeding related to tilapia, with the passing rate of provincial-level routine aquatic product testing reaching 100%.
In terms of exports, Maoming Customs has optimized filing procedures and expedited the processing of enterprise formalities to help businesses quickly obtain export qualifications. With the cooperation of multiple departments, the registered area of Maoming's tilapia export farms has increased to nearly 190,000 mu (approximately 12,667 hectares). Products such as tilapia fillets and whole frozen tilapia are exported to more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Russia, and Canada.
