WeChat has recently rolled out a series of practical new features across its mobile and desktop versions. Covering everything from sticker creation and file management to voice input and contact handling, these updates are designed to boost both daily convenience and professional efficiency.
I. New features for mobile
1. Voice-to-text now supports "simultaneous interpretation"
Don't let language barriers turn an international conversation into an awkward silence. WeChat's voice-to-text feature now includes "simultaneous interpretation." After recording a voice message in a chat, simply tap the "Translate" button in the left corner. Your voice will be automatically translated into the target language. Currently, WeChat's translation feature supports 18 languages, including Chinese and English.
2. Retain chat history after deleting contacts
You no longer have to worry about losing memories when removing a contact with your ex. A new option allows you to choose whether to keep chat history during the deletion process. If you re-add the friend later, the historical records will still be available.
3. Online preview for compressed files
You can now preview the contents of a ZIP or RAR archive directly within the app without downloading or decompressing the entire file. Simply tap to view, save, or forward specific documents, saving both time and phone storage.
4. Face-to-face file transfer
Share photos, videos, or documents with nearby friends quickly, without using mobile data. Tap the "+" icon at the top right, select Scan, go to My QR Code, and find the "Receive Photos & Files Nearby" option. Once scanned, high-speed file transfer begins instantly.
5. Custom stickers made easy
For those who love DIY stickers, the "Sticker Gallery" (微信表情助手) mini-program now supports easy uploads of your self-made creations. These can be used in chats and even showcased on your Channels profile.
6. Batch message recall
Avoid awkward moments by recalling multiple messages at once. Simply select multiple images, files, or messages and recall them in one go.
II. New features for desktop (version 4.1.8 and above)
7. Enhanced voice input
Desktop users on both Windows and Mac can now enjoy hands-free typing. By using shortcuts (Ctrl+Win on Windows or Fn on Mac), you can enable voice-to-text for faster replies and document editing.
8. Video playback speed control
Videos received in chats can now be viewed with custom playback speeds, allowing for a more efficient browsing experience.
III. Optimized user experience
In addition to these core features, WeChat has optimized its AI Search and enabled one-tap comments and AI-generated highlights for Official Accounts. Updates have also been applied to Channels, Mini Games, and Mini Programs to ensure a safer and more seamless experience for creators and users alike.
