Shenzhen officially kicked off its APEC 2026 volunteer initiative on March 5, positioning its 4.2 million-strong volunteer force to support the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November. With over 4,000 registered international volunteers already part of its community, the city is calling on the global community to be part of this prestigious event.

As Shenzhen prepares to host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2026, the city is leveraging its reputation as a "City of Volunteers" to deliver world-class service. "Once in Shenzhen, you're a Shenzhener; once here, be a volunteer" is more than a slogan—it's the city's civic ethos. To harness this spirit, Shenzhen has unveiled the "APEC Youth Volunteer Initiative," an eight-part action plan designed to enhance services, empower the city, and ensure top-tier support for the international gathering.
Key initiatives include a "Multilingual City Ambassador Contest" to showcase Shenzhen's global appeal; specialized language and international etiquette training for volunteers; targeted environmental and traffic improvement campaigns; and a dedicated care program for those serving at the APEC meeting.
Crucially, the city has launched an English version of its "Volunteer Shenzhen" (志愿深圳) mini-program, featuring a dedicated APEC section. This digital tool enables international friends to register, browse opportunities, and participate with ease.

With 4.2 million volunteers—nearly one in every three citizens—Shenzhen is ready to welcome the world. As preparations continue, more initiatives will be added, ensuring that when APEC delegates arrive, they will be greeted by a city that speaks the universal language of service and hospitality.
