Shanwei City and Nanfang Media Group (Nanfang Daily) jointly launched the South Shanwei Channel, a new platform designed to elevate the city's international presence, on December 10.
The channel will serve as a bridge connecting Shanwei with global audiences, offering an engaging glimpse into its unique characteristics and development momentum. The launch marks a new opportunity for the world to discover Shanwei's dynamic transformation.
As a strategic hub that leverages the synergy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and fosters coordinated growth along Guangdong's eastern coast, Shanwei is distinguished by its advantageous location and rich cultural heritage.
Enriched by the convergence of Hokkien, Chaoshan, Hakka, and Cantonese cultures, Shanwei has cultivated an impressive array of intangible cultural heritage. The city hosts nine national-level and 30 provincial-level heritage items and is among the few places that preserve three rare traditional opera forms—Zhengzi Opera (正字戏), Xiqin Opera (西秦戏), and Baizi Opera (白字戏)—along with iconic traditions such as Jiazi Yingge (甲子英歌) and the Haifeng Qilin Dance (海丰麒麟舞).
Building on these cultural and industrial strengths, the South Shanwei Channel will highlight the city's key sectors, including new-energy vehicles, marine engineering and equipment manufacturing, next-generation electronic information, modern agriculture, and its thriving marine ranching economy.
Looking ahead, the channel will focus on key themes such as integrated urban–rural development, green ecological progress, and enhancements in public well-being. Through vivid storytelling and immersive, multi-platform content, it aims to present global audiences with a vibrant, open, inclusive, and highly livable Shanwei.
