Wa'ang Village in Yangjiang welcomes bumper plum harvest

May marks the peak harvest season for plums in Wa'ang Village, Heshui Town of Yangchun, a county-level city of Yangjiang, Guangdong Province. Purple-red fruits blanket the hillsides, as the village's 2,000 mu (about 133 hectares) orchard is at the height of its harvest and sales period.

Farmers are busy picking, sorting, and packing fresh plums for markets across Guangdong and the neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Local grower Li Xianqing said this year's harvest has been exceptionally good, with total output projected at 250 to 300 tonnes.

Wa'ang Village has grown plums since 1987, and the fruit industry has become a major source of local income. Beyond traditional wholesale channels, local cooperatives have rolled out livestream sales this year, delivering fresh plums straight to consumers.

Thanks to the area's mild climate and fertile soil, the local plums boast a crisp texture and a sweet-tangy taste. Local authorities said the town will further expand sales channels, upgrade farming techniques, and develop rural tourism centered on blossom viewing in spring and fruit picking in summer.
