Starting October 25, the Western Artificial Island of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link will open to visitors on a trial basis, welcoming sightseeing tours ahead of its official grand opening in December.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is a 24-km world-class sea-crossing project featuring an integrated cluster of bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interchanges, linking Shenzhen, Zhongshan, and Guangzhou. Located at the key junction between the bridge and tunnel, the Western Artificial Island spans 137,000 square meters and serves as a multifunctional hub for traffic management, emergency response, and public education.
During the trial period, the island will accept weekday reservations from groups, while weekend visits will be open to the general public. Visitors on the first day will enjoy free admission. The recommended tour duration is about two hours.
Visitors with confirmed reservations can board free shuttle buses to reach the island, where they can ascend to the central viewing platform for panoramic views of landmarks such as Shenzhen Airport and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge. The tour also includes entry to a 2,200-square-meter Science Base, showcasing the engineering achievements behind cross-sea projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through immersive VR/AR and interactive digital experiences.
The outdoor exhibition area features a full-scale test section of the submerged tunnel's steel shell and other authentic components, allowing visitors to appreciate the cutting-edge engineering of this mega infrastructure.
Plans for the island are set to include emerging sectors like robotics and low-altitude flights, combined with educational tours and themed sightseeing for a diverse range of activities.
