On the occasion of the 15th Chinese national "Respect for the Elderly Month," the Guangzhou Branch of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (SPD Bank) combined financial education with community activities aimed at respecting, loving, and assisting the elderly through various "going out" and "bringing in" initiatives. These concrete actions established a financial knowledge defense line for the elderly, safeguarding their blissful lives.
The Guangzhou Dongfeng Sub-branch of SPD Bank disseminated financial knowledge at a garden tour event at the Sanyanjing Community Center in Hongqiao Subdistrict, attracting around 500 middle-aged and elderly residents from the surrounding communities. "Have you ever received door-to-door promotions for 'low-priced and highly effective health products,' 'universal cleaning supplies,' 'bargain antiques,' and so on?" The SPD Bank financial knowledge promoters used fraud tactics commonly targeted at the elderly as an entry point to attract passing elderly financial consumers to stop and listen. The promoters distributed promotional leaflets to the elderly passersby to protect them from being deceived, reminding them to strengthen their identification of illegal financial activities in daily life, avoid transferring money to strangers, and consult with their children in case of problems. At the same time, they answered questions about bank products and services encountered in daily life, earning high recognition from the audience.
Moreover, multiple sub-branches invited elderly clients to participate in the "SPD Financial Knowledge Classroom" activities. By explaining common scams such as "scan QR codes to get rice, flour, and oil free of charge" and "rent out idle property deeds without agent fees," they exposed the "new tricks" of elderly fraud and reminded the elderly to enhance their risk awareness, improve their "immunity" to financial fraud, and stay away from scam traps. The lively interactive atmosphere allowed the elderly to acquire financial knowledge in a relaxing and enjoyable environment.
