Recently, 117 containers, more than 1,600 tons of durians, including varieties like Monthong, Chanee, Kradumthong, and Puangmanee, were cleared by Nansha Customs. They were processed and dispatched from Nansha Port to wholesale fruit markets and supermarkets across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Since May 1, international cargo vessels carrying imported durians have been arriving at the port in rapid succession. So far, nine durian ships with 200 containers and over 2,500 tons of imported durians have docked at Nansha Port.
Of more than 150 international trade routes connecting Nansha Port to countries of the Belt and Road Initiative, about half are bound for Southeast Asia. Regional tropical fruits such as durians, longans, bananas, and mangosteens are imported via Nansha and can be quickly transported to families in the GBA via Guangzhou's Jiangnan Fruit & Vegetable Wholesale Market, located just a two-hour drive from the port.
According to Nansha Customs, fruit imports through the port reached 118,000 tons in the first quarter of this year.
Nansha Customs has implemented a dedicated clearance plan for the durian season. Measures include advance declaration and streamlined procedures for cold-chain cargo to ensure fast unloading upon arrival, swift inspections, and immediate release of fruits to the market.
