From January 13 to 19, a winter vacation social practice activity for postgraduate students of Peking University was carried out in Maoming. Ten students from Peking University delved into the streets, alleys, fields, and villages of Maoming, conducting practical research with an aim to empower local development with the intellectual resources of high-level universities.
This practical activity focused on Maoming's characteristic industries of "Five Kinds of Trees" (lychee, longan, Sanhua plum, tomentose pummelo peel, agarwood), rural revitalization models, the integration of agriculture, culture and tourism, and industrial development projects.
During the research on the lychee industry, the team members explored the historical culture of lychee planting along the on-site teaching points of Baiqiao Lecture Hall. They entered the China Lychee Museum and the National Lychee Germplasm Resources Nursery to understand the seed industry technology and international exchange trends. In the Baiqiao Practice Hall, Genzi Baiqiao Longan and Lychee Professional Cooperative, and other places, they studied the industrial operation and integration development paths. Regarding the tomentose pummelo peel industry, the team members went deep into the Huazhou citron planting bases and the Huazhou Citron Museum, learned about planting and processing techniques, and recorded the difficulties and pain points in development.
When studying the integration projects of culture and tourism, the team members visited many places such as the Short Video Shooting Service Center in Sishui Tandi, Gaozhou, and Shuanghe Village in Xinyi. They provided new ideas for the revitalization of the cultural industry from multiple dimensions. In terms of industrial development, the team members went to Donghua Energy (Maoming) Co., Ltd. and the Bohai New Port Area of Maoming Port to inspect the project construction and the role of the port area.
After several days of practical research, the team members directly felt the beauty of Maoming's scenery, its rich cultural heritage and the vitality of industrial development. At the symposium, the team members shared their insights and sorted out the key topics such as industrial upgrading. In the follow-up, the practice group will further summarize the research report, excavate, refine and promote the "Baiqiao Practice" experience, injecting new vitality into Maoming's rural revitalization.
