On March 12, also the 48th National Tree Planting Day of China, the Fourth Hengqin Nature Festival commenced at the Hengqin National Wetland Park.

This year's program focuses on mangrove ecosystem protection. Following a symbolic ceremony where guests watered saplings representing growth and hope, participants headed to the tidal flats to plant new mangroves. The rhythmic sound of shovels hitting the earth and the collaborative spirit of the volunteers added a fresh layer of green to the park, showcasing the tangible results of the region's commitment to nature restoration.
Since its inception in 2023, the Hengqin Nature Festival has evolved into a vital bridge for cross-border ecological exchange, aligning with milestones like International Forest Day and Macao Green Week to foster a shared environmental consciousness.
This year's schedule is particularly robust, featuring a "Ten Thousand Trees" initiative, which plans over 40 planting sessions throughout the year. From March 12 to 26, daily sessions will ensure that residents from all walks of life—including youth, families, and community groups from both Hengqin and Macao—have the opportunity to contribute directly to the local ecosystem.
Beyond physical planting, the event emphasizes education and youth engagement through diverse activities. An inaugural speech competition provides a platform for primary students to share their passion for mangroves, while the upcoming 2026 Hengqin Bay Area Youth Birdwatching Invitational on March 22 will bring young enthusiasts together to document regional biodiversity.
Complementary activities, such as tours of Hengqin's Ancient Tree Park, further allow the public to explore the historical and cultural significance of the area's oldest flora.
The celebration will reach its peak during the upcoming weekend of March 14–15 with the highly anticipated Hengqin Nature Carnival. Centered on the theme "Guardians of the Mangroves," the carnival will transform the wetland park into an immersive classroom.
With 14 interactive booths and 10 ecological workshops arranged along a discovery loop, the event invites participants to experience the natural world through a multisensory journey, reinforcing the vision of a greener, more integrated future for Hengqin and Macao.
