With about 200 days remaining until the opening of the 15th National Games, a series of cutting-edge meteorological support technologies for the event were unveiled in Guangzhou on April 23.
On that day, the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory conducted a full-chain meteorological support drill for the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games.
The drill utilized advanced monitoring equipment and refined numerical forecasting models, simulating the complex weather conditions that may be encountered on the opening day. It incorporated the actual weather conditions of the day and included special weather consultations with the Central Meteorological Observatory.

The provincial and municipal levels coordinated to provide refined meteorological forecasting products at the hundred-meter and minute levels, simulating various emergency scenarios that may arise on the opening day of the Games.
The drills encompassed progressive and refined meteorological support services, on-site support services, high-impact weather emergency support services, transportation and public meteorological services, low-altitude meteorological support services, and environmental meteorological support services.
The Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory introduced the "15th National Games Meteorological AI Assistant" for the first time. Utilizing large model intelligent analysis of weather data from DeepSeek and Tongyi Qianwen, it can quickly generate event service suggestions and improve decision-making efficiency.
Leveraging digital twin technology, the R&D team has created 3D visualization models of the opening and closing ceremony venues and key competition areas. This allows for dynamic monitoring and forecast timeline displays of meteorological station data around the venues, providing an intuitive reference for event command and dispatch.
The Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Service unveiled transportation and weather guides, as well as opening ceremony viewing indexes. The Guangdong Provincial Emergency Warning Information Center showcased targeted SMS reminders of meteorological risks for those traveling to the opening ceremony.
The Guangzhou Meteorological Observatory has conducted high-level R&D on precise weather forecasting during key event periods. It will upgrade the regional numerical forecasting model based on the terrain and microclimate characteristics of each competition area in Guangzhou, visually displaying the movement, intensity, and wind flow dynamics of thunderstorm clouds. This aims to achieve breakthroughs in quasi-real-time forecasting correction technology, significantly enhancing site-specific early warning service capabilities for the event.
According to the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory, a second full-chain meteorological support drill will be conducted 100 days before the opening ceremony.
