Huang Ningsheng, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, highlighted the achievements in China-Mexico cooperation when addressing the event.

He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, trade between the two nations has surged more than 7,000-fold. In the first half of 2024, trade between Mexico and Guangdong Province reached 81.323 billion RMB, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 22.79 percent.

Huang also emphasized the efforts made by both countries to strengthen local partnerships, citing numerous high-level visits that have helped foster mutual understanding and promote practical cooperation.

He added that China Southern Airlines launched a direct flight from Shenzhen to Mexico City in May 2024, further enhancing connectivity between the two regions. The flight covers an intercontinental distance of more than 14,000 kilometers in each direction, setting the record as the longest nonstop regular commercial flight to originate in China.

Julián Adem, consul general of Mexico in Guangzhou, underscored the growing importance of the China-Mexico relationship. He acknowledged the increasing presence of Chinese companies in Mexico while noting that two major Mexican firms—Interceramic and Coppel—are thriving in Guangdong.

"Historically, our first contact dates back to 1565, when ships carrying Chinese silk and porcelain, among other goods, arrived in Mexico," Adem said. "Around 450 years later, we evolved our bilateral relations into a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2013."

He added that since then, the two countries have established new dialogue and cooperation mechanisms with the most focus on the economic sectors. "Today, China is Mexico's second-largest trading partner in the Asia-Pacific region, while Mexico is China's second-largest trading partner in Latin America."

"These examples represent a clear sign that the relationship between China and Mexico continues to grow and is closer than before, predicting greater closeness in the years to come," said Adem.
