Weekend getaway | A one-day citywalk in Huizhou (Part 1)

Not sure where to go this weekend? Follow this one-day city walk itinerary in Guangdong's Huizhou and make the most of your day!

Stop 1: Xihudong Railway Station (西湖东站)

Start your journey at Xihudong Railway Station, part of the Guangzhou-Huizhou Intercity Railway. This line connects Huizhou with Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing.

Stop 2: Pinghu Gate (平湖门)

Walk to Pinghu Gate, one of the main entrances to Huizhou West Lake. Along the way, you can enjoy picturesque views of the lake. As one of the most iconic landmarks in Huizhou, West Lake sits at the edge of the bustling city center, offering a peaceful escape with beautiful mountains and waters.

Stop 3: Fenghu Academy (丰湖书院)

Founded in 1254, Fenghu Academy is one of the most famous historical academies in Huizhou, ranking among the four most renowned academies in Guangdong. Situated almost in the center of the lake, it exudes an air of timeless elegance.

Stop 4: Sizhou Pagoda (泗州塔)

Sizhou Pagoda is one of the most iconic landmarks of the Huizhou West Lake Scenic Spot, bearing witness to more than a thousand years of history. Originally built during the Tang Dynasty over 1,300 years ago, the pagoda was favored by the famous poet Su Shi (Su Dongpo) during his stay in Huizhou. He once praised it in a verse: "As the mountain unveils the moon at midnight, the jade pagoda lies upon gentle ripples."

Stop 5: Fengzhu Garden (丰渚园)

After leaving Zhunti Temple (准提寺), walk through Yanxia Bridge (烟霞桥) to reach Fengzhu Garden. The garden showcases the traditional Lingnan architectural style with elements of Huizhou-style courtyard residences. Elegant pavilions and towers are scattered along the lakeside. In summer, the entire garden becomes a paradise of blooming lotuses.

Stop 6: Zhuwu Lane (祝屋巷)

Named after Zhu Zhishan, one of the renowned "Four Great Talents of Jiangnan," Zhuwu Lane was once home to his family and descendants. Today, this lane has transformed into a vibrant cultural and creative hub, where rich history meets modern trends. It offers everything from food and drinks to shopping and entertainment.
