Foshan to host festival to celebrate rice harvest

Every year on the 13th day of the fourth lunar month—falling on May 10 this year—Pancun Village in Foshan hosts its annual folk event—the "Hehua Festival(禾花诞)." On this day, villagers of all ages gather to pray for good weather, abundant harvests, and good luck. This year's festival features a vibrant lineup of activities—let's dive in!

With rice as its central theme, the festival will create a rich cultural atmosphere with rice-inspired art installations, lanterns, and scenic displays. Leading the parade will be the "Goddess of Hehua" (a legendary rice deity in Lingnan folklore), bringing the tradition to life through vibrant performances and interactive moments with festival-goers.

In addition to traditional rituals and banquets, this year's event introduces dreamy rice-shaped lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere. The parade will also include illuminated dragon and lion dances alongside performers in elegant Hanfu (Han-style clothing).

Along the village pond, a nostalgic fair offers rice-themed snacks, creative souvenirs, and street performances. Visitors can also write their wishes on rice-inspired tags or release floating lanterns on the water, adding a touch of personal magic to the festivities.
