Dongguan Binhaiwan Bay Area drew national attention on July 13 when China Central Television (CCTV) featured its National AI Application Pilot Base in the series "Vibrant China Research Trip," spotlighting the region's push into AI-driven manufacturing.
Guangdong is one of China's leading manufacturing hubs, and the National AI Application Pilot Base has become a key platform connecting AI developers with manufacturers seeking intelligent upgrades.
By collecting real-world industrial needs from factories across Dongguan, the base develops customized AI solutions that accelerate digital transformation.
A major innovation is its AI Agent Supermarket, where enterprises can access a wide range of AI tools and applications. The platform helps manufacturers improve production efficiency and develop AI-enabled products. For example, the base offers a module that can upgrade a conventional plush toy into an interactive AI toy, significantly increasing the products' profit margin.
The base also lowers barriers to AI adoption by providing shared access to computing power, industrial data and proprietary large models—resources that would otherwise require millions of yuan in investment. This lets companies develop and test AI products faster and at a lower cost.
The base is now central to Dongguan's push to merge AI with manufacturing, giving small and medium-sized businesses across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area easier access to advanced AI tools.
