Guangdong records 179 million cross-regional trips during May Day holiday

During the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, Guangdong Province recorded a cumulative total of more than 179 million cross-regional passenger trips, up 9.2% year on year.

Road passenger trips reached approximately 165.83 million, up 9.43%. Railway passenger trips, including intercity rail, reached around 11.26 million, up 6.73%. Waterway passenger trips totaled about 1.08 million, while civil aviation passenger trips stood at approximately 1.33 million.

Expressway traffic across the province reached about 50.76 million vehicles, up 10.7% year on year, with an average daily flow of 10.15 million vehicles. On May 1 alone, expressway traffic reached 11.57 million vehicles, up 18.14% year on year. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link recorded 190,700 vehicles on the same day, with both figures setting new records.

Guangdong implemented multiple measures to ensure smooth travel during the holiday. For congested road sections, service areas, and toll stations near popular scenic spots, measures such as reversible lanes and traffic control were adopted to ease congestion. In addition, the province set up 38 provincial emergency rescue teams, 344 fixed rescue points, and about 400 temporary rescue points for rapid emergency response. Traffic and weather alerts were released in real time via mini programs and livestreams to help travelers avoid peak periods. Parking, refueling, and charging services at service areas were also better organized, with mobile charging units added at 21 busy service areas to make charging more convenient for new energy vehicles.
