First batch of Leiling lychees heads to North America

On June 19, with the assistance of Zungly Agricultural Group, around 30,000 kilograms of lychees from Leiling Town in Shantou set off for the North American sales market.

Before the trucks departed, local lychee farmers transported basket after basket of freshly picked lychees from the trees to the cold-chain center. Workers raced against the clock to carry out tasks such as branch and leaf removal, sorting, cooling and preservation, and packaging.

This is the first batch of lychees from Leiling to be shipped to North America this year. Thus far, Leiling lychees have been exported overseas for 22 consecutive years.

According to the local lychee association, the export volume of this year's first batch of lychees has increased compared to last year. To ensure freshness, all exported lychees are picked and transported on the same day, and their quality is guaranteed through a strict sorting process.

"The quality of Leiling lychees is excellent this year," said the purchasing director of Zungly Agricultural Group. After new superior varieties mature in July, they will be gradually introduced to overseas markets such as the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Leiling in Shantou is an important late-ripening lychee-producing area in Guangdong and is known as the Capital of Lychees in Eastern Guangdong.
