Construction of Jieyang-Huilai Railway in steady progress

Work on the Jieyang-Huilai Railway has passed a critical stage with the concrete pouring of a bridge over the Meizhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway. This milestone marks a crucial step forward for the project, laying the foundation for further construction and a timely opening.

The railway, a major transportation infrastructure project in Guangdong Province, will run from Jieyang Station on the Meizhou-Shantou Railway to Huilai Station on the Shantou-Shanwei Railway. The line will stretch 88.66 kilometers, with a designed speed of 160 kmh and an estimated investment of 13.28 billion yuan ($1.9 billion).

Once open, the railway will boost freight capacity at Jieyang Port and support industrial development in the surrounding area.

Guangdong Provincial Railway Construction Investment Group said at its 2026 work meeting that preparations to operate the Jieyang-Huilai Railway are being coordinated with its primary goal of opening the Eastern Guangdong Intercity Railway by 2028.

That line will connect major transport hubs, including Shantou Station, Chaoshan Station, Jieyang Station, and Chaoshan Airport, while integrating with the Jieyang-Huilai Railway.

Together, the two lines will extend the intercity rail network to Puning and Huilai, driving development in those two areas of Jieyang and accelerating eastern Guangdong's integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
