A symposium themed "Preserving Cultural Heritage: Advancing the Inheritance and Innovation of Ceramic Culture" kicked off in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, on August 25, following the recent UNESCO World Heritage inscription of the "Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites." The event brought together experts and scholars to discuss the systematic preservation and creative transformation of ceramic culture.
During the event, a parallel international forum on cultural heritage protection, as well as the inheritance and innovation of ceramic culture, was also held. Participants focused on three themes: how to leverage post-inscription opportunities, how to establish a replicable "Jingdezhen Model" for heritage protection and how to advance ceramic culture from "artifact export" to "knowledge export."
Attendees emphasized that the World Heritage designation should serve as a catalyst to transform the site into a lasting driver of urban development. Jingdezhen, known as China's "Porcelain Capital" for over a millennium, remains a living ceramic center where traditional craftsmanship continues to thrive alongside contemporary innovation.
