Hengqin's tourism sector has seen significant growth, driven by recent infrastructure improvements and the development of a wide range of attractions. The newly opened Hengqin Line of Macao's Light Rapid Transit (LRT) has streamlined travel between Hengqin and Macao, providing easier access to popular destinations such as Cotai, Macao International Airport, and Taipa Ferry Terminal. This enhanced connectivity is expected to boost economic, cultural, and tourism activities in both regions.
Visitor numbers to Hengqin are projected to reach 15 million in 2024, a 20% increase from the previous year. The region's diverse tourism offerings, from shopping and dining to eco-tourism and wellness, cater to a broad range of interests. Hengqin's evolving infrastructure, combined with its unique location, has made it an increasingly attractive destination.

Optimized policy also plays a key role in this growth. Starting in 2025, new measures like the "one trip per week" permit for Zhuhai residents with household registration and the "multiple-entry" permit to Macao for residents and residence permit holders in Hengqin will offer greater flexibility and convenience for travellers.
Since the introduction of the "multiple-entry visas for Macao-Hengqin tour groups" in May 2024, which allows small groups to travel with as few as two people, over 10,000 tourists have already signed up. Nearly 50 travel agencies nationwide have been certified to organize these tours.
Hengqin's ongoing development of its tourism, exhibition, and commerce sectors is set to further promote its profile. Plans to introduce more international exhibitions and high-end brands will continue to position the region as a key player in the global cultural tourism and trade markets.
