A snake was filmed emerging from a golf hole at a club in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, with footage of it raising part of its body and flicking its tongue circulating online.
Club staff said on September 25 that they were aware of the incident and had applied snake repellent in the relevant areas. They said the wooded, water-rich surroundings could attract snakes, which could be difficult to catch because they moved quickly. No snake-related injuries had been reported at the club, and staff said patrols would be increased.
Snakes are not an unusual sight on golf courses, where large grassy areas, ponds, bushes and overgrown vegetation can provide food and shelter. Drainage systems, utility infrastructure and even golf holes can also offer places for snakes to hide, particularly during warmer months.
Golfers encountering a snake are advised to keep a safe distance and avoid attempting to catch or handle it, allowing trained personnel to deal with the animal.
