Cold wave to hit Guangdong starting January 26

A cold wave is expected to impact China from January 23, with Guangdong to feel the effects around January 26. The cold air is forecast to remain strong, bringing a noticeable temperature drop.

The cold front will bring rain, snow, and strong winds to most parts of China, but its intensity will be weaker than the extreme cold experienced during the 2024 Spring Festival. However, the timing of the cold wave during the peak of the Spring Festival travel rush may cause significant disruptions to transportation. People are advised to monitor weather updates and plan travel accordingly.

In Guangdong, temperatures will drop sharply after January 26, with Guangzhou's daily average temperature expected to fall by around 8 °C. Urban Guangzhou's lowest temperatures from January 28 to 29 could reach 7 °C.

Before the cold wave arrives, Guangdong will still experience dry and sunny weather. From January 22 to 23, the province's southern coastal areas will see cloudy skies with light rain in some locations, while other regions will stay mostly sunny. Lowest temperatures will range from 8 °C to 11 °C in northern Guangdong and 15 °C to 19 °C in the south.
