Overseas Chinese youth explore roots of Chinese culture at Zhanjiang Winter Camp

An immersive, 10-day roots-seeking winter camp for overseas Chinese youth concluded on December 26 at Zhanjiang University of Science and Technology. Themed "Exploring the Roots of Chinese Civilization, Inheriting Chinese Culture, and Experiencing the Charm of Guangdong," the program offered a deep dive into Chinese culture.

Participants explored Lingnan culture and Zhanjiang's local character through a dual-track curriculum of "Chinese Language + Culture" and a hands-on experiential model. Visits included agricultural and tourism industrial parks, Huguangyan Scenic Area, and Chikan Old Street. Campers engaged in Cantonese opera, Piaose performances, and traditional crafts, producing creative works such as lacquered fans, calligraphy, painted opera masks, lion-head paintings, tie-dyed scarves, and paper-cut window decorations.

A camper representative delivers his remarks.

Camp leaders expressed gratitude to all partners for providing a platform that broadened horizons and showcased Chinese culture. Campers thanked overseas Chinese federations, teachers, and volunteers, noting that the program not only imparted knowledge but also fostered friendships and deepened their understanding of traditional customs.
