Guangdong's Yangjiang to host forum on green energy innovation cooperation

Domestic and international experts will gather in Yangjiang, Guangdong, on October 16 and 17 for the Green Energy Industry Science and Technology Innovation Sub-Forum of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum 2026 and the Greater Bay Area Green Energy Conference. Nearly 300 representatives from research institutions, leading companies and professional service organizations are expected to attend the event on Hailing Island.

Located in western Guangdong on the South China Sea coast, Yangjiang has a long coastline and extensive waters, giving it abundant offshore wind resources. Its total installed power capacity stands at more than 24.36 million kilowatts, the highest in Guangdong, with clean energy accounting for over 76 percent.

The city has 13 million kilowatts of offshore wind capacity built or under construction. It has also pioneered China's first green electricity direct-supply industrial park, making it a key clean energy supplier to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The conference will cover topics including the commercialization of digital and intelligent technologies, international mutual recognition of carbon footprints for zero-carbon parks directly powered by offshore wind, regional coordination of science and technology resources in the green energy industry, science and technology cooperation under the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and Yangjiang's potential to build a world-class dialogue platform dubbed the "Davos for Green Energy."

The conference will also extend the mutual recognition of standards to finance. Financial institutions will jointly launch cross-border green technology financial products for green energy demonstration industrial parks, linking carbon footprint performance directly to easier cross-border financing and helping put a value on carbon reduction.

Guidelines on training product carbon footprint assessors for zero-carbon parks will be released. Relevant organizations will sign a cross-border cooperation framework agreement with the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency on training carbon management professionals.

A ceremony will be held to mark the completion of a pilot project for new modular low-pressure hydrogen production equipment. The project aims to overcome key bottlenecks restricting green hydrogen production efficiency.

Experts from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese Academy of Sciences will also work with the local green energy science and technology innovation service center to release a digital identification system for the eco-design of new energy products. The system is expected to give companies digital tools for international cooperation.
