Expressways in Guangdong will not be toll-free during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from September 25 to September 27, with traffic expected to peak on September 25.
Average daily traffic is expected to reach about 8.28 million vehicle trips, with road traffic projected to remain high throughout the holiday, with overall travel volume in the province forecast to rise slightly.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is expected to see about 55,000 vehicle trips in total, averaging 18,000 a day, up 57.89 percent from the same period in 2024. Outbound traffic is expected to peak on September 27 at about 18,000 trips, while inbound traffic is forecast to peak on September 26 at about 20,000 trips.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is expected to handle about 401,000 vehicle trips during the holiday, or around 134,000 a day, up 25.97 percent from 2024.
Busy expressway sections are expected to include the Huangpu Bridge, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, Guangzhou Airport Expressway, Guangzhou North Ring Expressway, Guangzhou South China Expressway, Guangzhou-Huizhou Expressway and Guangzhou-Qingyuan Expressway.
Several service areas are also expected to be particularly busy for EV charging, including Wengyuan Service Area and Bazai Parking Area in Shaoguan, Lixi North Parking Area in Qingyuan, Jinzao Service Area in Shantou, Gaoliuhe Service Area in Yangjiang, Liangxi Service Area in Jiangmen and Shiling Service Area in Zhanjiang.
