China's most beautiful birds spotted in Qingyuan

More than 20 blue-throated bee-eaters, a species often hailed as one of "China's most beautiful birds," were recently spotted in Longjing Town, Qingxin District, Qingyuan, Guangdong Province.

Local wildlife photographers capture the birds as they rest on power lines and dart into the air to catch insects.

The blue-throated bee-eater is under second-class national protection in China. It is recognizable by its bright blue throat, chestnut-colored head, and greenish-blue plumage. The species breeds in parts of southern China during the summer.

Local forestry officials said Qingxin's well-preserved forests and abundant insect populations provide suitable feeding and nesting habitats for the birds. The district has recorded 236 bird species to date, reflecting ongoing improvements in the local ecological environment.
